Cured Polyurethane

Polyurethane, PU, Urethane (amongst other names) was first made back in 1937 by Otto Bayer. It is a polymer that was created to have many advantages over existing plastics. It is a mixture of Isocyanates and polyols to create many different chemical structures for many different applications.

Common products where Polyurethane is used are Furniture and bedding in a soft foam, Thermal insulation, elastomers such as gaskets and seal and paint pads, Footwear for soles of differing flexibility and rigidity, straps such as watch straps and bungee cords to coatings to protect surfaces from water and chemicals.

It’s inert format means it is a very robust, long lasting and stable material, but it also means that it is incredibly stubborn and resilient to cleaning products when it has been cured.

If you’ve been involved in the manufacture or use of PU you will know the effort required to remove PU residue. While Polyurethane (PU) is a strong and versatile material, it’s durability can often be a draw-back.

Not to mention the difficulty of keeping tools and machinery operational and clean.

As the Isocyanates and Polyols mix together they create Polyurethane, with many different mixtures combinations to create everything from a very rigid and tough material to a very soft and flexible foam.

This means the user can now clean and maintain mixer heads, moulds and many other tools without the need for dangerous chemicals such as Dichloromethane.

From liquid products where items can be dipped or soaked or used in conjunction with an ultrasonic cleaner to a thick gel which can be painted onto items that are too big to soak.
