Remove cured polyurethane without dichloromethane

Cured polyurethane (PU) is chemically inert once it has set, which makes it durable in use but very difficult to remove from tools, moulds and mixer heads. Bio8 Industrial makes a range of low-hazard, UK-manufactured products that break down cured PU deposits without dichloromethane (DCM), the hazardous solvent traditionally used for this job.

EN705 & EN710 — Liquid Polyurethane Remover for Steel Parts

EN705 & EN710 are liquid PU remover formulated for manufacturing component cleaning such as mixer heads, nozzles, valves etc. In short anything that can be dismantled and soaked — dip or soak parts, used neat, to break down cured polyurethane residue. 

EN706 GEL — Cured Polyurethane Gel Remover

EN706 GEL is the gel-format equivalent of EN705/EN710 — used for surfaces too large or too vertical to dip or soak. Apply neat, painted directly onto the surface.

EN730 — Inhibited Parts Washer, Degreaser & Cleaner

EN730 doesn’t remove cured PU itself — it’s the wash used after EN705, EN706 GEL, EN710 or EN720 to clean off residues of the PU-removing product and protect any steel part from corrosion.

How do you remove cured polyurethane from steel parts and mixer heads?

Dip or soak the part in EN705 or EN710 (used neat), or use it in an ultrasonic cleaning bath. Leave for a minimum of 4 hours — ideally overnight — for the product to fully break down the cured PU deposit. Follow with an EN730 wash to clean off residue of the PU remover and protect the part against corrosion.

What’s the difference between EN705 and EN710?

They’re the same type of product, used the same way — neat, with a minimum 4-hour (ideally overnight) dwell time. EN705 is slightly stronger than EN710 & more acidic and better for stainless steel, aluminium parts or for difficult PU compounds

Can I remove cured PU without using dichloromethane (DCM)?

Yes. Bio8’s EN700-series products are formulated as a low-hazard alternative to DCM, which is a common but hazardous solvent for cured PU removal.

What if the part is too large to dip or soak?

Use EN706 GEL, painted directly onto the surface rather than requiring immersion. On vertical surfaces, apply the gel and cover it with paper to form a poultice, holding it in contact with the surface. Leave for a minimum of 8 hours, ideally overnight.

Is EN710 safe to use on steel tooling and moulds?

Yes, it is slightly less acidic than EN705, but we always strongly recommend it is used in conjunction with EN730 for washing off the parts and protecting from any acidic residues that can cause corrosion on mild steel.

What’s the difference between EN705 & EN710 and EN730?

EN710 removes the cured PU deposit itself. EN730 doesn’t remove PU — it’s the follow-up wash that cleans off residue of the PU remover and leaves a corrosion-inhibiting coating, used after EN705, EN710 & EN706 GEL.
