About EN706 Gel Cured Polyurethane Remover

While polyurethane is a brilliantly versatile material, it can pose a challenge for those who use it to manufacture products. No matter how much care you take, you can’t avoid PU residue entirely — over-runs, spills, and general build-up from regular use all cause this residue.

Left uncleaned, cured polyurethane residue can radically reduce the efficiency of a machine and its components, and over time it will seriously shorten the machine’s working life.

For components you can remove, soaking them in EN705 solvent-free polyurethane residue remover liquid works well, since it lets you simply brush the softened residue away. In many situations, though, soaking an affected area isn’t practical or even possible. That’s where EN706 solvent-free polyurethane residue remover gel comes in, offering the same great cleaning power as EN705 but in a gel format. As a result, you can paint it directly onto cured polyurethane, where it penetrates and breaks the residue’s bonds, then softens the polyurethane so you can remove it easily.

We’ve formulated EN706 to combine great cleaning power with low hazard levels. It also contains no dangerous solvents or harmful chemicals, such as Methylene Chloride (DCM), NMP or NEP — which removes many of the storage and use issues that traditional products pose. What’s more, EN706 is much more environmentally friendly than traditional products, removing many of the disposal issues after use.

Why a Gel, Not a Liquid?

A liquid soak works well for detachable parts you can submerge in a bath, but it isn’t practical for large fixed machinery, vertical surfaces, or equipment you simply can’t remove from the production line. EN706’s gel consistency solves this problem directly. You can paint it onto any cured PU build-up, however large or awkwardly positioned, and it will stay in place long enough to penetrate and break down the residue.

Once you apply it, EN706 penetrates the cured polyurethane and breaks down its internal bonds, softening the material so you can wipe, brush or blow it away easily — without needing to disassemble or remove the equipment you’re treating.

Key Benefits

Solvent-free, without DCM, NMP or NEP

EN706 contains none of the dangerous solvents traditionally used in gel-format PU removers, including Methylene Chloride (DCM), NMP or NEP. As a result, it removes many of the storage and handling issues associated with traditional products, while still delivering effective cleaning performance.

Low hazard and more environmentally friendly

We formulate EN706 to combine strong cleaning power with low hazard levels, making it safer to store and use than traditional solvent-based gels. It’s also significantly more environmentally friendly, reducing many of the disposal issues associated with conventional PU removal products.

Stays where you put it

Unlike a liquid, EN706’s thick gel consistency means it clings to the surface you apply it to, rather than running off — essential for treating vertical surfaces, overhead equipment, or any area where a soak simply isn’t possible.

Compatible Materials

Use EN706 on mild steel, aluminium and stainless steel surfaces.

How to Use EN706 Gel Polyurethane Remover

Always wear gloves and eye protection when handling EN706, and avoid contact with skin.

EN706 comes as a thick gel. For best results, decant it into a smaller container and apply it by brush, covering the area you want to clean completely.

Always use EN706 on a cold surface (at worst, lukewarm), and don’t use it on hot surfaces, since the gel will disintegrate.

Cover the area with a thick coating. On vertical surfaces, you may also want to cover it with paper to create a poultice and reduce gel slippage.

Leave it for a minimum of 4–6 hours — ideally overnight — for best results.

Then, wipe off the softened PU residues with a brush, cloth or compressed air. Clean the surface thoroughly.

Finally wash the item with diluted EN730 Inhibited Parts Cleaner to remove any acidic residues, especially on steel surfaces.

Tips for vertical and overhead surfaces

On vertical surfaces, covering the freshly applied gel with a layer of paper reduces gel slippage. This creates a poultice effect that holds the gel firmly in contact with the cured PU for longer, improving penetration on surfaces where gravity would otherwise cause the gel to slide.

Choosing the Right Polyurethane Residue Remover

EN706 is one product within a complete range we’ve developed to handle every type of polyurethane residue removal challenge. Choosing the right product depends on the condition of the residue and whether you can remove and soak the affected item.

If you are unsure which product is right for your application, contact us and we will advise based on the item, material and type of residue involved.

Works Best With

After using EN706 to remove softened PU residue on metal surfaces, wash the item with diluted EN730 Inhibited Parts Washer Fluid. This removes any remaining acidic residue from the EN706 cleaning process and, where compatible, leaves a corrosion-inhibiting protective coating on the cleaned surface.

    FAQ

Can you immerse parts in EN706 Gel?

In theory yes, but the liquid version EN705 or EN710 would be better

    How quickly does it work?

This depends on the type of residue. Softer, foam-based PU typically takes 2–4 hours, while harder, closed-cell residue can take 6–24 hours. See our full How to Use instructions above for application details.

Will the gel stick to a vertical surface?

Yes, although with heat the gel may thin and it is best to wrap the part in newspaper or pallet wrap to avoid drips and keep gel in contact with PU

    How to use

    1. Decant EN706 into a smaller container for ease of application, then apply by brush, covering the area to be cleaned completely.
    2. Only apply to a cold surface, or at worst lukewarm. Do not use on hot surfaces, as the gel will disintegrate and lose effectiveness.
    3. Apply a thick, even coating over the affected area.
    4. Leave for a minimum of 4–6 hours, preferably overnight, for best results.
    5. Wipe off the softened PU residue using a brush, cloth or compressed air, then clean the surface thoroughly.
    6. Wash the item with diluted EN730 Inhibited Parts Washer Fluid to remove any acidic residues, particularly important on mild steel surfaces.

Excellent PU remover. breaks down the bonds to easily clean surfaces
We tend to use it to clean tools within our sample creation area. Also we provide it to contractors to remove the stains created from our PU resin when installing Resin surfaces and driveways.
We have ordered for many years and it has always worked very well.
